Montana Brittany Club This is
a newly formed club and we are not yet sanctioned by the American Brittany Club (ABC) or
the American Kennel Club
(AKC). We
are working toward this as rapidly as possible.
Dog Training topics include (something for all levels, from young
dogs to Master):
-Gun shot response problems
-Hunting: use of wind, recognizing cover, effective hunting pattern
-Pointing: holding point, achieving an intense, stylish point
-How to train your dog to hold point until a shot is fired, or to be
“steady-to-wing”
-Complete step by step “steady-to-wing-and-shot” process
-Teaching your dog to “honor” with style and intensity
-“Hard mouth” problems
-Emphasis on live demo and hands-on training Hunt Test Strategy Topics
include:
What the judges are looking for in JH, SH, and Master Hunter levels:
This would allow each handler an opportunity to make an honest
evaluation of his/her dog's strengths and areas needing improvements.
Based on Mike’s experience as a hunting dog test participant/judge for
the last 26 years he can offer some handling tactics/tips in order for
one to become better hunt test dog handler. Some of the concerns
we'd address may include, but not limited to: short hunting range,
chasing brace mate, not pointing long enough, not finding birds, not
sure if the dog will "honor", poor retrieving habits, or any other
problems encountered by dog trainers. This clinic welcomes new students
and will also build upon last year’s clinic.
Date & Time:
Saturday 5/17, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm,
Sunday 5/18, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Cost: Club members $100,
non-members $125, couple rates available
Includes 2 days of hands-on training,

Bring your dog & your challenges, this course will be
field-based w/ live birds, and sometimes with shotgun/blank pistol
discharge. Mike will offer one-on-one time for clinic participants.
Caution: Pointing dogs young and old are encouraged to participate;
however, we will ask owners of dogs not used during gun discharge
periods to be parked sufficiently away from the training area. Mike Okamura’s Experience
